Children Prefer WalkAide over AFO
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently published the first study evaluating the WalkAide System on children diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. The study titled “Acceptability and effectiveness of a foot drop stimulator in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy” is now available online and will be published in the upcoming issue of the journal of Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology (link)

The research demonstrates the following:
• 95% WalkAide acceptance rate among participants (19 of 20)
• 90% of participants preferred to wear WalkAide, over brace or no intervention, beyond the treatment phase
• Kinematic improvements after four months of wear, suggesting continuous improvement with device wear. This is a finding that would not be expected with conventional bracing

The Pediatric WalkAide System is an advanced Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) device specifically configured for children. It is uniquely programmed for each child to stimulate the nerve to lift the foot, promoting a more natural, balanced and efficient gait. WalkAide is a lightweight, self-contained unit worn below the knee and fully operable with one hand. Children have the freedom to choose to walk with or without footwear, up and down stairs and even sidestep.

The WalkAide System can be used both in rehabilitation therapy to influence proprioception and motor control and worn as walking assist in every day activities.
